Boosted Landmarks of Contextual Descriptors and Forest-ECOC: A novel framework to detect and classify objects in cluttered scenes

چکیده
In this paper, we present a novel methodology to detect and recognize objects in cluttered scenes by proposing boosted contextual descriptors of landmarks in a framework of multi-class object recognition. To detect a sample of the object class, Boosted Landmarks identify landmark candidates in the image and define a constellation of contextual descriptors able to capture the spatial relationship among them. To classify the object, we consider the problem of multi-class classification with a battery of classifiers trained to share their knowledge among classes. For this purpose, we extend the Error Correcting Output Codes technique proposing a methodology based on embedding a forest of optimal tree structures. We validated our approach using public data-sets from the UCI and Caltech databases. Furthermore, we show results of the technique applied to a real computer vision problem: detection and categorization of traffic signs. 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A Novel Method for Tracking Moving Objects using Block-Based Similarity
Extracting and tracking active objects are two major issues in surveillance and monitoring applications such as nuclear reactors, mine security, and traffic controllers. In this paper, a block-based similarity algorithm is proposed in order to detect and track objects in the successive frames. We define similarity and cost functions based on the features of the blocks, leading to less computati...
متن کاملRecognizing Objects in Range Data Using Regional Point Descriptors
Recognition of three dimensional (3D) objects in noisy and cluttered scenes is a challenging problem in 3D computer vision. One approach that has been successful in past research is the regional shape descriptor. In this paper, we introduce two new regional shape descriptors: 3D shape contexts and harmonic shape contexts. We evaluate the performance of these descriptors on the task of recognizi...
متن کاملObject Recognition and Full Pose Registration in Cluttered Environments
Robust perception is a vital capability for robotic manipulation in unstructured scenes. In this context, full pose estimation of relevant objects in a scene is a critical step towards the introduction of robots into household environments. In this paper, we present an approach for building metric 3D models of objects using local descriptors from several images. Each model is optimized to fit a...
متن کاملModified-hybrid optical neural network filter for multiple objects recognition within cluttered scenes
Motivated by the non-linear interpolation and generalization abilities of the hybrid optical neural network filter between the reference and non-reference images of the true-class object we designed the modifiedhybrid optical neural network filter. We applied an optical mask to the hybrid optical neural network’s filter input. The mask was built with the constant weight connections of a randoml...
متن کاملStatistical Background Modeling Based on Velocity and Orientation of Moving Objects
Background modeling is an important step in moving object detection and tracking. In this paper, we propose a new statistical approach in which, a sequence of frames are selected according to velocity and direction of some moving objects and then an initial background is modeled, based on the detection of gray pixel's value changes. To have used this sequence of frames, no estimator or distribu...
